Spelling city

Great site! This is the second year I have used this site. Students are given the spelling test for the week on the computer. The teacher types in the list words for the week and students are orally given the word and a sentence. They can replay either or both and then type the word. In addition, this site provides games to help the students learn and understand the words, their spellings, and meanings. I really like this site because it allows the students to work at their own pace. Once the students are finished with their test, they get immediate feedback on how they did. They are then able to go back and play games to work on words or begin learning next week's lessons. The teacher is able to save these lists from one year to another, create different lists for students at different ability levels, and test scores and student activities are saved in the teacher gradebook.

Tagxedo
Tagxedo is very similar to "wordle" but with shapes. Students are able to type in words to fit a topic or theme and then select an image or shape to go along with it. I have found this to be very useful when teaching adjectives, prewriting activities, and Social Studies concepts, as well as creating thank you notes for field trips and holiday cards.
